AKRO-FARMS SOCCER TOURNAMENT: AKOKOASO CROWNED CHAMPIONS

The maiden edition of Akro-Farms Soccer Tournament saw Akokoaso Youth Club crowned as champions on Sunday in Akropong. The eight-week football competition attracted ten communities in the Akuapem Ridge who competed for supremacy at the PCE Small Field, Akropong-Akuapem. The Soccer Tournament is to build Youth engagement in Akuapem. The opening and closing ceremony had a host of the Okuapehene, GFA President and some other dignitaries.
The grand finale witnessed Akokoaso Community defeating the Abanase Community by 5-4 on penalties, to run home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of GHC5, 000 whiles Abanase settled for GHC4, 000 for placing second. But the most cheered team, the Amanfo community, had to settle for the third slot after they beat Ahenebronmu 2-1 after 90 minutes of soccer action. Amanfo took home GHC3,000 for placing third whiles Ahenebronmu also received a cash price of GHC 2,000 for the fourth position.
Kwame Boafo of Abanase was adjudged the Best Player of the entire competition. Community members who trooped to the park were excited to be part of a live soccer tournament in which they were able to meet the chief and some other dignitaries who graced the occasion with their presence at the competition grounds.
Patron and Director for Akro-Farms, Mr. Benson Opoku, said the tournament was part of Akro-Farms’ commitment to add value to community life and excite indigenes through the game of soccer and promised that the event will be organized regularly following the successes  attained in the  maiden edition  in terms of  patronage by the various communities.
